mounting tv above fireplace put components

mounting tv above fireplace put components

We just purchased a new house, and there is a media room that is setup with a gas FP and ample space above for mounting flat screen. I currently have a 37" Panny plasma, and do like it, but will be looking for a 50" for this space. What I choose is a topic for a whole separate thread....

mounting tv above fireplace put components

My problem is that I want to have the monitor integrated into my five channel audio setup--so how do I do that when the screen is located above the FP?

Do I simply run a long HDMI up to the back of the unit, and down to my AVR? I have all of this stuff in a cabinet right now--center, sub, Plasma, DVD, AVR, CD, etc., etc. Do I try to mount some heavy duty shelves on the side of the FP and put all this gear on them? Or do I just run long cords to the TV and keep the components in a glass paneled unit on the floor?

The geometry of this is already stressing me out. I think the TV will look great up above the FP, but since this is the primary viewing TV for sports and movies, I want/need the full stereo multi channel effect.

I just read something about HDTV setup here at CNET; One of the thing NOT to do is to install the panel above your fireplace. You have no other place to put that?

fwgibbs, you are stressing out over this. If you like your existing cabinet, I'd use it. Try to place it so the cables don't have to have an excessive length & be in a pleasing position for you to enjoy a rather normal furniture environment. I too, would feel strongly that the set up be combined with the 5 channel audio set up.

ha ha no t.v. stuck on a wall for me I would bring in the pros and have a sweet front projector installed with a 8"10 ft screen flush mounted with the ceiling all you see is this door thats painted the same color as your ceiling and when you hit the power button door swings open and this beautiful huge screen drops down for a real movie theater experience also hi-quality 1080P projectors are very affordable now Yes I figue $7000 for the whole system but the resale value of your home will be triple that amountI know Iam crazy but wall mounted t.v. look stupid I dont like the idea of having a t.v. that looks like a picture ugh steweee

this is the way the contractor designed it, with the wall outlet, cable line, etc. right smack in the middle above the fireplace.

Of course, I don't HAVE to do it this way, but now that it's done, I think I might as well take advantage of it.

There are tons of windows in this media room, so there is no other good place to put the TV and components. It's either above the FP with the HDMI line coming down to the AVR, which would be stacked somehow with other components, or I'd have to run a cable some distance to a corner, where I'd have a cabinet.

My issue with a TV over the FP would not be the heat, but rather the viewing angle. Ergonomically, the TV should be at eye level or below. If you have to look up at the TV for extended periods of time, this may give you a "pain in the neck". Just be careful and take a good look at how far away you sit and how high the TV is. If the center of the TV is 5' off the floor and you're sitting 10' away, you may be okay, but take close look at this.

HDMI cables are great because a single cable can carry all that you need. If there is a good way to run the cable, I personally like placing the components out of the way. In fact, placing them out of sight is even better. Here are some different ways to get your remotes to work no matter where the components go:

Corner Wall TV Mount 3D HDTV LCDTV

Corner Wall TV Mount 3D HDTV LCDTV, A corner wall mount TV is actually one of the few things that you would not expect, do not go out and buy "TV wall mount corner" until you read this, you most likely will buy the wrong mountain. If you find either corner wall mount LCD TV or Plasma TV wall mount corner. Then we will explain below how this is usually achieved.

TV corner wall stick usually attached common wall attached on a board that is installed in the corner of the room only. See the picture above. Therefore there is a special mount is required for this. Easy to get 2 * 6 or 2 * 12 (make sure the board is wide enough for your mount to attach), cut the end boards at a 45 degree angle and mount on the wall.

Absolute certain that the board is attached to the studs in, however, the wall. TV is a concern that this board MUST be securely fastened to the wall. Once the board is installed, you can use just about any LCD or Plasma mount your work to your TV. Does that sound like too much work, do not worry there is another option.
Determined that mount type you need and are willing to make a purchase? We recommend either Online ordering and More or Walmart.

Another option is to use a cantilever TV mount. This type of mount has two armatures and allow the TV to extend, rotate and tilt. Therefore you attach the mountain wrong one wall side-in the place where you can then use weapon to put a TV as if it have been installed in corner of the room. The mountain would be extended, but hidden behind the TV that is not clear that TV is not installed on the corner. This is not as strong as the board tricks mentioned above, may also cost a little more but it is easier to achieve.

A good advantage to using a cantilever approach is that you can rotate and move the TV if you want like to connect the cable to the back.
There are other options for corner wall mount the TV as a TV wall mount rack that is the platform that sticks to the wall that the TV is placed from above. This also makes the vehicle to a very good point.

Want to turn TV from side to side or have TV installed in the corner?

Want to turn TV from side to side or have TV installed in the corner? - tv mounting service nyc

Depending on room layout you might want to have TV installation on swing arm mount and turn TV to side so it faces the viewer. Perhaps you want to have TV installed inside wall unit and pull it out to watch. Maybe you want caddy corner TV installation. If any of those apply to your TV installation then you need our LCD TV installation on swing arm, Plasma TV swing arm mount installation, LED TV full motion arm installation.
There are few considerations before selecting TV installation on full motion arm mount. First and foremost is wall ability to support extra weight. Full motion arms are heavier than regular wall mounts. When TV is extended away from the wall on full motion arm mount, there is lots of extra stress added to the wall due to leverage effect extended arm creates.

Second is arm mount thickness. Usually arm mounts are 3.5”-4.5” thick when folded. In many cases TV is too far away from the wall and looks too bulky. Also, swing arm mount costs more than traditional mount. Longer cables have to be installed and outlet relocated. Some walls require reinforcement to support added weight bringing installation price higher that usual. All metal studded walls have to be reinforced for arm mount. Call us to find out more details regarding TV installation on articulating swing arm mount.

Here we have 42” Sharp Aquos LCD TV installation on full motion swing arm mount. This TV installation was performed in NYC high rise apartment. As most NYC apartments have sheetrock over metal studs that are too weak to support added TV and arm mount weight, we had to reinforce the wall with 1/2” plywood. Wires were ran down the wall. In this TV installation the only option to have TV in this NYC bedroom was to install it on articulating arm mount. Pardon all the boxes in the picture. Customers just moved into this beautiful midtown apartment.
Another great custom installation by www.installyourplasma.com

This 42” Samsung Plasma TV installation on full motion articulating arm mount in NYC was the only option to have TV in living room. We opted to use single stud large arm mount. It is bolted to other side of kitchen cabinets to corner cabinet support. We had to remove some china out the cabinet to lessen weight load. Cable box and DVD player are installed inside the cabinet behind TV. Cable feed and electrical are run through cabinets to the right were the only outlet in the kitchen is. IR repeater system was installed to control components.
TV looks awesome. It’s floating in the air in the middle of he room. TV can be viewed from the couch and dinning table.
Beautiful full motion swing arm TV installation by www.installyourplasma.com

Here we have 52” Sharp Aquos LCD TV installation on full motion swing arm mount in Hoboken,NJ high rise apartment. Customer planned to install her LCD TV on swing arm mount and had wall reinforced during apartment renovation. This TV installation on swing arm mount was the only option to watch TV from the couch. Cable box and DVD player are set on top of fireplace right under TV.
Beautiful TV installation on arm mount that nicely blends into room decor.
Great TV installation on full motion articulating arm mount by www.installyourplasma.com

This 52” Sony LCD TV installation on full motion swing arm mount in Queens, NY worked great in this open design house. TV can be turned to the right to watch from dinning room table and can be turned to the left to watch from the couch. Track molding was installed right above the baseboard and wires were ran into molding. Electronics were installed on end table next to the couch.
Awesome and functional TV installation on full motion swing arm mount by www.installyourplasma.com
TV installation on full motion swing arm mount is great option where TV cannot be installed in front of the couch. It is also great to have TV installed on arm mount if one wants to watch TV from different areas. We do not recommend those arm mounts unless completely necessary. Many companies try to sell arm mounts due to higher profits they make selling them. We, at www.installyourplasma.com, want you to have beautiful, functional, and cost efficient TV installation. Call us to find out if you really need TV installation on full motion swing arm mount.

Company History www.installyourplasma.com

Company History www.installyourplasma.com

Here are some facts about us and our company.
Family owned and operated since 1999, VS and VS Enterprises Company has been providing quality television and home theater installations in the Tri-State area.
Vinny, company founder, is an electronic engineer and custom speaker designer with more than 25 year experience in the field. When him and his family came to USA from Russia 17 years ago, he worked as electrician, HVAC installer and construction worker.

When Victor, company partner, received his driver's license at age of 17, they opened their first joint business, a small construction company. We also offered help with in-home wiring along with stereo and VCRs setup. At the same time Victor used to install custom A/V entertainment and sound systems in cars on weekends. As both of us have passion and huge knowledge in Audio/Video entertainment systems, we focused our joint venture on growing field of in-home consumer entertainment systems. Big screen rear projection TVs became available, satellite television came out with fully digital signal, digital home theaters came out with 5.1 surround sound, and, of course, DVD players became affordable. Back then, flat panel TVs were still extremely expensive and very few customers could afford them unlike these days. Now, we mostly focus on flat panel TVs and Home Theater Systems. All this valuable experience that we gathered with years helps us understand home structural design, possible wire run obstruction, wall ability to hold TV weight, and connection options in various electronic components and proper interconnection types.

We specialize in Flat Panel TV and Home Theater installations with in-wall wire concealment in finished homes. With knowledge of home construction, we successfully run wires without breaking walls that later require patching and painting. This approach require more time spent on job but saves money to homeowner eliminating the need to hire someone to patch and paint walls again.
Our other specialization is extra large TV installations. TVs over 52” are very heavy. To lift those giants, we use custom made electric TV lifting device that lifts TVs up to 400 lbs up to 12’ in the air. This lifting device is a must to accomplish 65” 150 lbs TV installation over the fireplace safely and efficiently.
We understand that you have a choice in picking an installation company to install you flat panel TV and Home Theater System, but how many companies will send you installers who have so much experience and such a strong background like we do? We personally perform every installation and are among very few companies who are owner operated by people who LOVE what they do for a living.

With more than 28 years of combined experience in electronic engineering, construction and electrical wiring you can be assured that you are dealing with expert installers. Our goal is not the amount of jobs we do, but personal attention to every project without middle man involved saving you money and headache.
Give us a call and we sure will help you with your installation project.
Best regards,
Vinny and Victor

3D TV technology, hardware, installation

3D TV technology, hardware, installation  - tv mounting service nyc

Avatar was first non-animation movie made in full 3D. I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D and was amazed with 3D effect. There were still some imperfections with image synchronization but overall it was awesome. Newest 3D TVs coming out have 1080P HD picture with electronic shutter glasses that make HD 3D picture perfect. 3D HDTV, in my opinion, is the future of television. We are still far away from glasses-less 3D HDTV for in-home use but I absolutely don’t mind wear glasses to watch a movie for couple of hours.

3D TV technology is still too new. There are limited specifications details available. Here are few major details: HDMI 1.4 cables have to be used for higher bandwidth and additional digital data; Playstation 3 is the only Blu-Ray player that will support 3D Blu-Ray discs after Sony releases firmware update and it should output 3D digital data via it’s HDMI 1.3 port; some HDMI 1.3 A/V receivers might pass through 3D data but it’s too early to speculate; 3D-ready Blu-Ray players will be needed with two HDMI outputs-version 1.3 for HD sound to A/V receiver and version 1.4 for 3D content to TV.

We are 3D HDTV pioneers. We installed 3D Mitsubishi LaserVue laser rear projection TV way before 3D became major news. Unfortunately, there were no 3D content available at that time. Call us for your new 3D HDTV installation.

www.InstallYourPlasma.com will keep our customers informed about 3D HDTV news. 3D HDTV technology is still too new and there are very few details available.
BestBuy has 3D TV on display at 900 BestBuy stores nationwide. I personally saw Samsung 3D LCD TV demo and here are my thoughts. It feels like characters are inside the box in 3D rather than right in front of you. It did not feel like everything comes out at you. Glasses feel like my driving sunglasses and can be worn for couple of hours. Overall, I liked the 3D experience. It is MUCH better than current 3D BluRay movies with green and red paper glasses. Picture is much sharper and there are absolutely no glitches during the playback. I would definitely purchase 3D TV in future. 3D TV I personally want is Mitsubishi LaserVue 65” rear projection TV. Larger the screen-better 3D experience.

Metal stud wall TV installation

Metal stud wall TV installation  - tv mounting service nyc

Many people call inquiring if we can mount their flat panel TV on metal studded wall. We have special hardware that allows to safely hang TV to metal studs. All highrise NYC apartment buildings have metal studded walls.

Metal studded walls are not as strong as wood studded walls. With use of our hardware, TV installation on metal stud wall can be performed safely with no-fall warranty. If full motion articulating arm is used, we must have wall reinforced as it will not support TV extended away from the wall. We usually reinforce the wall with plywood cut to specific articulating arm wall mount.

Many companies reinforce all metal studded walls even for flat or tilt wall mounts. They do it to charge more for unnecessary labor. It is absolutely safe to mount TV on flat or tilt mounts. Our largest TV installed on metal studded wall was 65” Sharp LCD TV. To safely mount such a large and heavy TV on metal stud wall we used extra long wall mount to grab three metal studs. Customer was very happy as he did not have to pay extra for wall reinforcement other companies wanted to charge him.

We have installed many TVs into new and existing custom wall units. When new unit is being ordered and build customer call us to determine TV type and size. Cabinet maker builds and installs wall unit. Then we come and mount TV inside the unit. When customer has the cabinet, we come to discuss TV size and any modifications that we have to make to existing wall unit. Customer purchases TV and we come back to install it.
Surround Sound system can be installed at the same time to complete Home Theater. In some cases we work with cabinet maker to incorporate speakers into wall unit. Call us before you order your new wall unit or to install your TV into existing wall unit.

Here we have 32” Samsung LCD TV wall unit installation in NYC. Customer has custom made book case/wall unit and wanted to replace their old CRT tube TV with this new LCD TV. We opted for full motion arm mount for this wall unit TV installation. It allows customer to have TV inside the unit when not in use and to pull it out and position it for optimum viewing angle. This is a secondary TV in the house. We ran direct cable feed to this TV eliminating cable box.

Here we have Samsung 50” Plasma TV wall unit installation along with Bose Lifestyle 5.1 surround sound system for our Lawrence,NY customer. This wall unit was custom built. We worked with cabinet maker to have TV flush with wall unit. Here we used low profile fixed wall mount. Per our request, cabinet maker made shelf and sound transparent door directly above TV. Electronics and front Bose speakers are installed behind the door. Rear speakers are set on speaker stands next to the couch. Subwoofer is in the corner behind arm chair.

Here we have Sony Bravia 40” LCD TV wall unit installation in Port Jefferson,NY into wall 10 year old unit. This unit was not designed to house LCD TV. CRT TV used to sit on right bottom shelf next to speaker.  40” Sony Bravia was the largest screen size TV we could use. In order for TV to fit, we had to remove two top cabinet doors and partially cut chambers divider with special saw that doesn’t scratch shelf finish. Then we sanded edges and painted them to the cabinet color. Next challenge was clearance. TV is 23 3/8” tall and shelf is 23 5/8” tall. We used full motion arm mount and very precise measuring to have TV fit with only 1/8”! left on top and bottom. Electronics are setup on the shelf under TV. Extremely precise wall unit TV installation by www.installyourplasma.com

Here we have Samsung 72” DLP wall unit installation along with Polk Audio surround sound system in NJ. We also installed two rock speakers for backyard area entertainment. TV and all electronics fit like glove. Center channel was install directly under TV. Right and left speakers are hidden inside right and left bottom cabinets that have sound transparent material over doors. Rear speakers were installed in wall right behind the couch. Subwoofer is hidden behind arm chair to the left. Giant TV with great quality sound system make customer feel like in the movie theater.

TV installation in the kitchen

 tv mounting service nyc

Many of our customers request to have LCD TV installed in the kitchen. Some customers enjoy watching CNN or local news while having breakfast, some customers want to entertain themselves while cooking, some customers spend more time in the kitchen than their living room and prefer to have TV in the kitchen.
www.installyourplasma.com is the company to call for your LCD TV installation in the kitchen. There are many locations in the kitchen where your LCD TV can be installed. Wire run options and cable box location depends on house structural design.

In some kitchen LCD TV installations we run wires inside the wall into basement, in some installations we run wires into sink vanities. Some customers do not want to have cable box in the kitchen. We either relocate cable box out of sight or connect cable feed directly to TV to have basic cable channels.
Call us for consultation regarding your LCD TV installation in the kitchen.
Scroll down to view some of our LCD TV installations in the kitchen photos

This LCD TV installation in the kitchen looks great. This NJ customer loves to watch local news and traffic having his morning coffee. This installation was pretty complicated. TV installation above window was not a problem. Wire concealment was tough. We had to cut some wall behind TV to drill through wooden beams to pass wires down the wall. Cables came out behind coffee maker to the right of the sink. Cable box was setup on countertop away from the sink between coffee maker and wine bottles. Beautiful LCD TV installation in the kitchen by www.installyourplasma.com.

This 26” LCD TV installation in the kitchen was done for our Brooklyn,NY customer. This LCD TV was installed in the corner on full motion wall mount. Outlet was relocated from under TV to behind TV. Wires are snaked down the wall and track molding was installed by the baseboard to run wire horizontally to the cable box that was set on lower shelf to the left. Cute kitchen LCD TV installation to enjoy while having family dinner.

Here we have 19” LCD TV installation in front of kitchen table for our NJ customer. Even though this TV is small, installation was quite challenging. There are corner support wooden beams. It was very difficult to snake wires down the wall due to very limited space between those beams. Customer opted not to have cable box installed. Cable feed was snaked through the wall from adjoining room. Not only this LCD TV installation allows customer to watch TV from kitchen table, it is also viewable from stove and sink area. Very cute, unobstructed and functional LCD TV installation in kitchen.

TV installation off the ceiling

When TV needs to be installed in the middle of the room out of reach, TV installation off the ceiling is the best option. Major concern when installing TV off the ceiling is wire concealment. When there is no attic or support beams block wire passage wire concealment can be impossible without cutting the wall. Track molding can be installed on outside of the wall to hide wires.

TV installation off the ceiling can be installed in private residences if there are no other TV installation options available. In businesses, TV installation off the ceiling is common option as TV is installed out of reach.
It is very rare when there are no other TV installation option but TV installation off the ceiling. We had a customer who had closet doors in front of the bed, windows on the right, and large door on the left. We opted to install TV 3 feet away from closet door off the ceiling centered with the bed.

We always try to find other TV installation options than ceiling TV installation. Once, we suggested to install chrome pole in the middle of the room and mount TV to the pole. Call us to discuss your TV installation off the ceiling.

Here we have Samsung 52” LCD TV installation off the ceiling in Queens,NY. Luckily, support beams ran right to left. We ran wires inside the ceiling between support beams to the left. Left wall is solid and we had to install track molding from ceiling to the floor to hide wires into molding. This LCD TV installation off the ceiling was performed in the church. TV was connected to DVD player. We also ran HDMI cables to two locations where laptop PC will connect to play PowerPoint slide shows. This TV off the ceiling installation is great and functional. Later we installed two more TVs in that location.

Here we have three TVs installed at gas station store in Stamford,CT. Two are pictured here. TV to the left is installed off the ceiling over the counter. We had to use adjustable ceiling mount to bring TV down to desired height. Wires run inside drop ceiling to the office on the other side of the store. These TVs are used for digital signage. Beautiful and clean TV installation off the ceiling.

Here we have another TV off the ceiling installation in gas station store. Here we also used adjustable height pole ceiling mount. Wires ran inside drop ceiling. This TV is used for digital signage.

TV installation off the ceiling is performed mostly in businesses where TV has to be out of reach. Private residences have many more TV installation options. In private residences, TV installed high off the floor will be uncomfortable to watch for prolonged period of time. Call www.installyourplasma.com to see how we can help you with you TV installation off the ceiling.

Wires are run through closet that is above TV on second floor. Cable box ins installed on top left book shelf. Here we have 52” Sony XBR LCD TV installation over brick fireplace in Pound Ridge,NY. This is one of complex TV over fireplace installations. Customer requested wires to be concealed and Monster Cable power center installed behind TV. To make room for Monster power center, we had to remove 2 bricks out the wall to embed surge protector flush into the wall.

To conceal wires, we channeled 3” deep channel between bricks all the way around left fireplace corner to reach drywall. Then we snaked wires behind drywall into storage closet on the other side. After that wires were run into wall unit center cabinet next to log storage. Electronics are installed behind closed doors. To control electronics we used Harmony 890 universal RF remote control. Wood burning fireplace can still be used normally. This TV installation over brick fireplace took whole day but will serve customer for years to come. Great custom TV installation
